New law: Cook County senior citizens must reapply for senior exemption

Contrary to previous years where the senior citizen property assessment exemption automatically renewed, a new state law requires Cook County seniors, 65 and older, to reapply for the exemption by March 3.  Applications have been mailed to about 300,000 senior property owners, but it is likely many persons will overlook the notice. This new law does not affect senior exemptions in other Illinois counties.  For more information, or to download an application, please visit: www.cookcountyassessor.com
